I’ve never tried a J. P. Wiser’s before. I wonder why? This is an 18yo blended Canadian whisky priced at +/-£40 rrp, so lower shelf fare. C: Perhaps this is just what people want as an antidote to high strength, high octane, flavour-driven malts, either that or a tough week in the office. After the weekend I’ve had - at the Whisky Show 2022 and all its highlights - this comes across as soft/weak/thin youngish column still whisky, gone from the memory in a flash. For the price, on paper [for an 18yo blend], there’s little wrong with it. Unfortunately, there’s little to commend either.

At first it smells strongly of glue. Behind it, caramel, a little vanilla and hints of maple syrup and coffee emerge. Unfortunately, there isn't much left of it in the mouth. Alcoholic and thin in taste, it turns into a short, boring and, to top it all, slightly bitter finish, just as disappointingly. In the best case, it could still be described as spicy. Unfortunately, dilution with water does not reveal anything further. Grade: 4+

Вкус	83	Delicate fruits, nectarine, melon but then dominated by toast and spice. A creaminess from the grain.

Nose: Latte, grapefruit and a real hit of honeyed toffee Palate: Apple, Russet Pear, a hint of cigar and tobacco, white pepper and ginger Finish: Not long and reminded me of the aftertaste of a Cadbury's Caramel but also a whiff of hazelnut Summary: Overall I enjoyed this but felt it lacked complexity for an 18 year old

I tasted the sample imported from the Whiskey Festival 2017. It's pious, but I expected more interesting drink due to age and nice bottle. A big jump over McCormick did not come to me.

With a nicer finish would be worth the price for 18 years, so there is a small vermouth stopper. One of those Americans who, despite the sounding notes, is not so much for Christmas as more for a nice BBQ in the fall for a sweet accompaniment.

Here, too, I have the impression, as in the 10s, that much has been helped with "flavoring", such a taste is found neither in (old) Scottish blends nor in the US relatives with similar grain mix. Hard to guess what flavor is really due to the "18" and whether it is more of a splash on the bottle (and to justify the € 60) and you could have created the same taste with younger Whiskey. Again, if you like something sweet, liqueur like pimped, quite delicious, for purists rather nothing.
