very soft, round and balanced, superbly balanced flavors, very tasty. An excellent malt. Wonderfully complex. I like it very much.

Нос	96	soft sherry aromas, lots of spicy oak, lots of dried fruits, soft and round, raisins and plums, sweetness, delicate wood notes and furniture polish. When heated, very aromatic, when the glass wall is damp, a bit sharp and tart as well as slightly citrus fruits and herbs, honey comes and becomes fruity.
Вкус	95	lots of oak, sherry and sweetness, fruity with honey, herbs, a little mint on the sides of the tongue, refreshingly spicy. Later on it becomes creamy with caramel and very light chocolate. Fig notes come at the end as well as raisins. Very round and balanced.
Финиш	93	Caramel, sweet, dried fruits with plums, raisins, light sherry and light oak notes, long finish, at the end a little bit tart transitioning to light chocolate notes

Glenfarclas 40 year old, 43%, SMSW. 30ml sample, Aug 2022. Dark golden but with a hint of a more orange hue. Aroma is airy tropical fruits to start with, gaining intensity slowly. Mango and pineapple, Chewits, maybe a little margarine. Pleasant fruitiness. Subtle and clean with no off notes. The buttery note is the only thing not entirely to my liking. Slowly, slowly some deeper darker dried fruits. Good stuff. Body is rounded, watery. Taste has a surprising prickle for the low abv, there’s also something a little feinty-seeming (subtle cheese rind), spicy with some old wood but it’s not over oaky in my book. Subtle hint of raisin. That margarine flavour follows through onto the palate. Char and oaken bitterness, peppery. A mixed bag. The casks are relatively subtle given the age yet bring plenty of spice. Almost entirely refill casks for sure. The spirit seems pretty old school. I prefer newer styles. Interesting to try and perfectly fine stuff. 3.35/80

Нос	88	Some dark fruits, prunes, raisins, old leather, coffee, nuts, chocolate, some tobacco.
Вкус	89	Oily structure, thick, a little pickering. Red fruits, prunes, leather, dark chocolate. Then some winegums too, pretty smooth and soft, yet rich.
Финиш	89	Very smooth now, full and thick. Prunes, dark chocolate, somewhat bitter. Also some tobacco. Pretty long finish.

Part of a Glenfarclas tasting I remember only a few years ago the 40 year old (purple tube) was $400 cdn. I think I saw it even cheaper at one point! I waffled, it was gone and it seems like one day later that it was $1200... ah well. This was poured right in front of me at the tasting and upon sticking my nose in there right away, I was very unimpressed. Over the course of the night I kept nosing it and it just got better and better. Definitely needs time to unfold, patience is key. It’s a great malt, but I felt like had the abv been even 46%, it would have made a world of difference.

Вкус	92	Honey, spicy, fruity. Very round, soft, absolutely balanced. A bit tingly on the tongue. Dark chocolate (because of chocolate + bit of bitter oak)
Финиш	92	Medium length. Caramel + light milk chocolate = Toffifee. But also dark chocolate. Some oak.

The Glenfarclas 40yo definitely cannot deny its origin from the Glenfarclas core range. It is a logical development of the Glenfarclas 25yo and 30yo. Nose: The alcohol strength of 43% is perfect to smell, because nothing stings and you can fully indulge in the variety of flavors. This old malt in the glass is very fragrant, almost perfume-like, all the flavors are very closely interwoven. Overripe pear, sweet nectarines and peaches combine with baked raisins. Caramel and a hint of tobacco mix with floral notes such as honey and herbs. A pleasant maltiness rounds off the entire aroma. It is a real experience! Palate: He lies sweetly and oily on the tongue with a light tingling of herbal honey and oranges. Would he like a few percent alcohol better? No, this malt was not composed for drinkers of young and strong whiskys, this old man is for connoisseurs and a real gentleman. With an astringent mouthfeel on a hint of violet, one is accompanied in the finish. Finish: The aroma symphony continues for a long time. The actors are licorice, milk chocolate and a delicate fruitiness that linger on the tongue. A really great whisky, but you have to do something to do it justice. It invites you to indulge and dream and if you like, it is a very good companion through a quiet and long evening.

Нос	91	It needs a little time and air in the glass. Warm and aromatic, sherry, oranges, dried fruit, a hint of herbs, spices/baking spices (vanilla), honey, fruity-spicy, a touch of smoke, wood notes.
Вкус	92	warm and soft, pleasantly fruity and spicy. A hint of perfume. Oranges, dried fruit, honey, spices, subtle wood notes, chocolate, nuts, a touch of coffee and oak. :) This is very delicious.
Финиш	92	Delicately bitter with notes of wood, chocolate, spices, aromatic honey, and a hint of herbs. Balanced and very pleasant. Fleetingly, a touch of ironing and a trace of smoke. Finishes malty-sweet with dried fruit (raisins).

Нос	87	Very round and pleasing, made for everyone. Wet wood, balsamic vinegar and after a while I have fennel, first as seeds and then slightly sweet like baby tea
