A lively, bright whisky, simple and straightforward, easy to drink, smooth, with some downsides - dusty cardboard notes and a slight wateriness, although at the same time it is quite rich.

Easy to drink, accessible whisky. In the body it starts pretty full but suddenly collapses a little, haven't experienced that very often.

Нос84Fruity, tropical fruits, peach, pineapple. Surprisingly pickering alcohol for such a low Abv. Overripe banana. Later on softer and more attractive, vanilla.
Вкус82Some pepper, sweet, pretty full body, peach. Later on smoother and unfortunately more pale as well. Suddenly pretty watery. Tropical fruits, vanilla.
Финиш83A little pepper now, sweet, peach, orange, honey. Not very long, a bit candy-like, 'schuimblokken'.

Bottler's notes: "Aroma: Sweet, earthy notes of cream caramel, classic Glenmorangie vanilla and coconut and malt biscuits. Taste: Soft, silky mouthfeel with dessert notes such as vanilla custard and pears. Delicious pineapple and citrus notes. A hint of exquisite ginger followed by long-lasting, recurring notes of white chocolate and almond marzipan. " Yeah, sure. I really tried, but the description is a fairy tale. And for people who are just fans of typical 1st-fill bourbon and virgin oak whiskys, that's nothing. And from treats such as Traditional 100 °, Cellar 13 or Astar from your own home far away.

That's what an ex-bourbon and virgin oak maturation must be for me. The combination of the toffee-vanilla fudge notes from the ex-bourbon and the particularly fruity-floral aromas of the Virgin Oaks works perfectly well for me in this combination. NAS or not, the Tarlogan is made in my opinion excellent craftsmanship and a regular in my home bar.

Нос89After pouring the polished gold floats immediately a sweet cloud of pear and apple juice through the room. Fresh, sour apples meet ripe, yellow pears, nectarines and a slice of lime. And constantly present vanilla fudge and shortbread dipped in forest honey. At the same time the bouquet is almost overwhelmingly flowery, violets, roses, lavender and orchids evoke memories of red Haribo raspberries or fondant. Other associations line up, a glass of moderate red wine with pecan nuts, nutmeg, rosemary and coffee beans tickle something in the nose. At most, the slightly perfumed and tingling touch leads to slight deductions in the B-note of an otherwise excellent nose.
Вкус91The aromas in the smell presented anything but boring, the taste is still surprisingly distinctive and by no means as perfumed sweet as expected. Silky soft he fills the mouth, but at the same time flowery-fresh and again slightly tingling. Toffee fudge and honey on malted brown bread, pear compote and pineapple, balanced by a light woody bitterness of almonds.
Финиш80The finish again emphasizes the sweetness, light chocolate, shortbread and malt sugar, softened by almond skins and a hint of woody notes, as if one had just sucked on a colorful candy cane.
keizerjos Expert Senior 82 08 apr 2020 5:32 pm
1. Delicious but soft sweet vanilla. Summer evening whisky, nice to drink but a bit lacking in character. 2. Pear. Clearly pear in the smell and taste. I love pear. 3. After the Signet. Some sour first taste. After that, however, much softer, subtle and beautiful. Short aftertaste, unremarkable, pear - unmistakable - remains the theme. Nothing wrong with it, tasty, summer evening whisky. But I already said that before.

Pictish Protector Tarlogan is a Pictish protector of the forests surrounding the Tarlogie Springs, the source Glenmorangie still uses today for the production of its single malt. The malt matured in Virgin Oak and Ex-bourbon casks. Fresh, bright, and almost floral nose. Vanilla, coconut, ripe apricots, and banana are the aromas on offer. After a few moments, a generous drop of honey follows, and the malt takes the perfumed turn, fortunately without going over the top. On the tongue, a mild malt unfolds with apricot and vanilla, but on the mid-palate the spices begin to make themselves known and it becomes quite spicy, in a good way. A touch of pepper provides a pleasant warmth, while a soft, chestnut-like bitterness ensures balance. Pleasant. In the finish, the floral element returns particularly strongly – now dangerously close to perfume. The nose and taste are good, but in the finish, as far as I'm concerned, it goes a bit wrong.

A pleasant surprise. Fresh oak, but not overpowering or bitter. Fresh (northern forest) smell. The usual vanilla and honey and a bit of fresh ginger and oranges in background--some of the classic Glenmorangie characteristics. Overall a pleasant aperitif for summer. Dr. Lumsden wood management on display.

The Legends series tells about the home of the distillery and was created exclusively for travel retail. After The Duthac and The Tayne, Tarlogan is the last edition in the series. Glenmorangie draws its water from the Tarlogie spring, which rises somewhat hidden in a clearing hidden by pine trees.

I think this is a quite nice every day dram, nothing special, but really nice.
Stefan_Hartl Expert Senior 81 28 mar 2022 7:46 pm
For me the weakest whisky from the Legends series. Ex-Bourbon casks and Virgin Oak aren't that earth-shattering. The malt is quite nice, but the price is too high for what is on offer.

- a super successful mix of bourbon and virgin oak - nice sweet bourbon storage - once came onto the market for around 80€, at the current 60€ it's definitely worth it
kawhi Connoisseur 83 20 dec 2024 10:44 pm
A whisky that walks a tightrope between being delicious and not. It is hard to believe that it has 43.0% alcohol content, but it has a strong boom and a strong taste. However, the aroma, taste, and finish are strong overall, but it feels like the balance is broken. Perhaps due to the influence of virgin oak, the oakiness that gives a bright impression is felt strongly here and there, and it gives a feeling like a long-aged bourbon cask, but it quickly collapses in the finish, leaving a very unique impression. A whisky that leaves a unique impression that is delicious, but certain notes stand out too much, and it seems strong, but at some point it collapses like a 4-drone all-in jug.
нос · вкус · финиш
Нос85Fudge / Heather Honey (Honey, Floral) / Green Apple / Peach / Vanilla / Jackfruit / Pineapple / Oak / Milk Chocolate / Coconut / Lactic Acid - The booziness feels strong compared to the alcohol content. It is listed as 43%, but in my personal experience, it has a booziness similar to that of CS-grade whisky, which is over 50%. - The soft texture of fudge reminds me of a crumbly sandalwood and the floral sandalwood of heather honey are felt at the same time. From the beginning, the sandalwood, which seems light but not, is felt very strongly, making the overall scent feel sweet. - Rich fruity notes, green apple and peach. Green apple is a bit stronger, but peach or stone fruit nuances are also quite distinct, adding layers. Vanilla is very strong, blending with other fruity notes, and jackfruit is also strong, adding layers to the fruity notes. There is a hint of pineapple mixed in. - When you first smell it, you can feel the bright and fresh oak nuance, and as you smell it a little more, it approaches you with a soft milk chocolate-like bitterness. The scent of coconut flesh and a slight lactic acid scent make it feel even softer.
Вкус83Heather Honey (Honey, Floral) / Oak / Dark Chocolate / Cinnamon / Pepper / Green Apple / Peach / Pineapple / Jackfruit / Vanilla / Hint of Lime / Coconut - The light honey sweetness full of floral notes of Heather Honey spreads throughout the mouth, and the nuance of bright oak is mixed together. The nuance of oak leads to a soft bitterness like dark chocolate, and the spicy taste of pepper is strongly felt on the tongue. A little cinnamon is added to the nose, adding stimulation. - The fruit nuance is similar to the scent, with the fresh green apple as the main flavor, and the peach seems to follow. The tropical fruit nuance of the pineapple tongue and the nuance of the jackfruit are mixed and felt together. The vanilla is felt together with the fruit scent, quite clearly and strongly. - The citrus is not strong, but there is a slight sourness like a hint of lime, and the unique nutty flavor of coconut meat is felt together.
Финиш82Heather Honey / Toffee / Vanilla / Pineapple / Green Apple / Peach / Milk Chocolate / Oak / Pepper / Ginger - The finish is of medium length. - Just like the feeling in the scent and taste, the light and floral sweetness of heather honey is felt strongly at first and then disappears quickly. The crumbly sweetness of toffee is also felt. - The vanilla is clearly felt, and the fruity scents, like a mixture of pineapple, green apple, and peach, are strongly felt. However, like Heather Honey, the nuances abruptly weaken at a certain point. - The bitterness of smooth milk chocolate and the feeling of raw oak become more prominent as the finish continues. The spicy taste of pepper or ginger continues to tingle the tongue.

Good NAS Highland Single Malt - in the liter bottle for less than 60,00 € = ok!
CaskNLeaf Expert Senior 83 10 jan 2020 8:38 pm
Nose: Much deeper, darker, old, viscous honey. A lot of it! The wood has done a lot of good work here (preview: which unfortunately has completely disappeared) and makes smelling a pleasure. Powdered sugar with real vanilla is lying on the honey bed and I would like to incorporate the sticky manna immediately, but there is more to come. Toffee, caramel, cotton candy reinforce the impression of a confectionery stall at the fair. Baked bananas, "Apfelkiachla" and a slightly woody impression complete the overall picture. I would describe the malt in terms of nose as light, but at the same time full and really pleasant. Mouth / outlet / Nachschmecken: As previously announced, the rest of the tasting is less enthusiastic. The Scotch Whisky is too simple in the mouth and can be used on its own. A bit of sweetness is complemented by woody bitterness and spice and yes - basically that's it. Unfortunately, the tasting is too complex for me and simply a bit bland. The single malt leaves the palate as a bit of sugar and leaves the woody, bitter oak in the mouth for a short to medium length. Relative: S. Conclusion. Conclusion / points: I was positively surprised. Everything I've read or heard about it so far was not sooo tingling. Yes, I also read Notes, which were positive, but I felt that those impressions were rather in the minority. That's how my nose convinced me here. Deep, dark, sweet and with a sticky impression. Bourbon-like, only milder. Unfortunately, the taste dropped far. I would definitely recommend this scotch to beginners in the world of malt. I actually had a hard time here (as I haven't done for a long time). On the one hand, it doesn't meet my requirements (anymore), but on the other hand, I know exactly that I would have liked this malt a few years ago. Imagine that you come across this first real single malt from JW Red or Black and I know that this would be a revelation. In my assessment, I try to do justice to this conflict between experience, my own aspirations and beginners' perception and try to find a mediocre balance in the awarding of points. I don't know why I'm having a hard time with the malt and not just "driving over it" ... Anyway - I once had a couple of SMWS Glenmorangies in a row tasting and it would fit perfectly. I bet that "The Tarlogan" could blindly be classified as Glenmorangie by many. This could be seen as bland on the one hand, but on the other hand also as a property that gives Glenmorangie an unmistakable recognition value. I am for the latter and see it positively. 83 points (87/81/80)
