It will probably never be the way it used to be, but this is a new Ardbeg that is truly impressive, especially on the palate, where it scores really well with ashy smoke and tart fruit notes.
нос · вкус · финиш
| Нос | 87 | Peat smoke, herbal sweetness – although the peat smoke note is immediately noticeable upon first smelling it, it doesn't come across as intrusive, but rather subdued and comparatively gentle. Fresh apricots and peaches, both fresh and dried herbs and spices. Coriander and parsley (fresh), turmeric, a touch of cinnamon, chervil (dried spice). Only a very delicate lemon note, nowhere near as pronounced as in early Ardbeg. Nor is there an ashtray overflowing with cigarette butts; those days seem to be unmistakably over. Coconut water, vanilla, blossom honey. |
| Вкус | 88 | Yeah, right from the start it shows what it was somewhat lacking on the nose: beautifully ashy, dry smoke, lime zest, grapefruit, fresh tar, dried seaweed, a touch of bacon, and yes, the feeling of a full ashtray is now there too. The emerging fresh apricots and tangerines bring you back to the present and remind you that this is a 2026 bottling – but: the aforementioned fresh fruits blend in superbly, the ashy smoke continues to spread, the tar remains, as does the dried seaweed, a bit of pepper emerges, grated nutmeg, and the fresh tangerines are still present; surprisingly, this is quite enjoyable. |
| Финиш | 87 | A very respectable finish with everything that made itself felt on the palate. Here and there a fresh note flashes, which I haven't experienced with previous Ardbegs (mandarin? apricot?), but this doesn't detract from the overall impression, as ashy smoke takes over the tongue, crumbly dark chocolate and roasted coffee beans add a bitter note, and dry wood rounds it all off. |
It had been a long time since I’d had such a satisfying encounter with an Ardbeg that wasn’t an extremely expensive limited release; the fact that it’s a permanent part of the core range at a more than reasonable price is just one more point in its favour. Chapeau.

| Нос | 90 | Bring your nose to the glass and you’ll find all the island character of Ardbeg whisky. Sea rocks, seaweed, grilled seafood, boat hull, hydrocarbons… all descriptors that for some will definitely be off-putting and will once again confirm that Ardbeg is not for them, but for those who love this profile it’s an olfactory symphony. Plenty of citrus (between lime and citron) with secondary notes of patisserie (crème brûlée, slightly scorched shortcrust pastry, candied ginger), vegetal elements (licorice root, green tea, tobacco), aromatic herbs (rosemary, thyme) and spices (cinnamon, cloves). The smoke is acrid, of burnt wood, and accompanies rather than dominates the aromas. A faint balsamic impression in the background. Intense and evocative. |
| Вкус | 89 | Age and strength make themselves felt in the texture on the palate, oily and full-bodied, which echoes the nose with a greater emphasis on pastry notes and introduces hints of tropical fruit (pineapple, mango) alongside the citrus profile, which remains dominant. More spices (black pepper and ginger), more hearth and bonfire, more maritime character (enhancing saltiness and minerality), less hydrocarbon, resulting overall in a (relatively) gentler approach that is still full and assertive. Vegetal and balsamic notes also raise their voice, especially the latter, with lingering mentholated nuances. Liquorice. |
| Финиш | 89 | Long, where the smoke envelops the palate, with citrusy, balsamic, and coastal notes filling the mouth. |
Aw, jeez, Ardbeg..! This one is a tricky one because it is neither bad nor really good. Whereas in the past a couple of major (special) releases I could categorize more easily (e.g. good: 10 cs, 10 Eureka; negligible: the others, esp. in regards to the retail price), the Trudernish has a decent retail price, is as creamy and smoky as advertised and generally offers a welcome addition to the Ardbeg core range. I just wish it was more exciting, a bit more complex, or distincly elegant. The way it is it falls a bit into the category of a Glenmo 18, certainly competently made but no need to buy as it lacks personality, or, more technically spoken, a USP, unique selling point, for many of us maltsters. So 86p. seems fair, however I will re-assess and gladly chance the score if overlooked something. ;-)
It's softer, more subtle than the Ten, with dried lemongrass, woody vanilla, liquid caramel, and a powerful, granitic, calcified smoke. Peat in the background, slightly earthy, fudge, ripe apricots, grapefruit, sage, seaweed, and kelp. On the palate, there's fruit, a certain roundness, red plums, juicy pears, creamy vanilla, all nicely spiced with cloves, cumin, and white pepper. A beautiful, long, smoky finish with licorice, eucalyptus, candied lemon, kumquat, coarse sea salt, dark chocolate, and gypsum rocks. A medicinal and herbaceous touch. All in all, I judge it very slightly superior to the Ten, but I also understand those who prefer the Ten, because it is a more typical Ardbeg. https://ilikesky2020.blogspot.com/2026/10/ardbeg-trudernish-15-yo.html

An Ardbeg with predominantly bitter aromas; the salty-aromatic character with brief fruity notes rounds off the flavor profile for me. Nothing new, but still well done - 09.10.2026

At the Whisky Day in Hulín 26. Probably a classic Ardbeg in aroma. Citrus and tar, honey, vanilla, raisin. Medium sweet in taste, I was expecting more honey, but there is more smoke. Coal chimney, menthol, burnt bottom of a bun with jam. Long aftertaste, again tar, freshly laid asphalt, spruce resin. I was quite pleased. It still doesn't match Uigeadail, but it is definitely drinkable.

This is a solid, smoky malt. It doesn't exactly grab me, though. I haven't had a Uigeadail or Corryvreckan in a while, but I'd probably prefer those. They have more power and character. The Trudernish is quite good in itself. It just needs a good complement. To the whisky purists, it probably seems a bit neither here nor there. Not mature enough for 15 years, but also not strong enough to compete with the Uigeadail or Corryvreckan.
A lovely new core range whisky from Ardbeg. Classic Ardbeg profile, lots of Asian buffet banana, and unfortunately, for me, too much wood spice towards the end. The virgin oak was a bit too dominant. As always, you can find the full review on my YouTube channel Friendly Mr. Z Whisky & Tastings.

The first impression is somewhat disappointing: ash and seaweed, rather closed and a bit thin for an Ardbeg. A few drops of water noticeably improve it. It gains significantly in complexity: chocolate notes emerge, and I occasionally detect some tropical fruit. The smoke is well integrated. However, it remains somewhat thin and could use more body. Overall, an okay bottling. One large bottle is enough for me, though.
The first sip is somewhat clear, thin, and very ashy, but then it becomes sweeter and very balanced. Congratulations to Ardbeg!
A nice Ardbeg. Straightforward and without any frills. Very drinkable. Earthy, the peat is just right. 71-80 – Fine, like to drink by time

The new Ardbeg "base" is a good whisky at an even better price. For just under €80, we have a smooth whisky, full of sweetness and a subtle hint of smoke, with juicy fruit. Very delicate to sip, pleasantly warming, and for fans of "numbers," a 15-year-old Single Malt.

Got a sample from my good friend who is a BIG ardbeg fan. 15 years old and not that high in price if I am correct, wondering if the quality matches what you pay for it.

| Нос | 87 | At first, this is what Ardbeg should be, well balanced in peat and fruity notes. Opens up with lemongrass and a little abricot, together with bonfire notes. It's a little rusty in the background but it doesn't bother me to be honest. After a while some anice and cotton. |
| Вкус | 85 | A little more sharp and bitter than the nose. Bonfire makes way for coales and burned wood. The yellow fruits remain present but not like the nose. Oak wood is more present in the palate. |
| Финиш | 86 | Earthy, notes from dunes and a sea breeze, burned wood and yellow fruits a little. Pretty smooth. In my opinion, worth the money. |

Some 7-8 years ago I decided not to buy Ardbeg anymore. At least their distillery bottling. Ardbeg got so hypy, fashionable and frankly the quality got south like never seen before. Uigeadail is still a prime example, dropping from absolutely great to mediocre stuff if not poor. But I guess those people who run distillery listened their customers. Arbgeg Trudernish is amazingly good single malt. It takes a lot of time and water to open up, so don't judge it by the first or even second pour. The price is also reasonable given that this a 15 yo Islay whisky. The point is also that many distilleries are strugling now. Many people refuse to pay extra just for a brand or shiny things. There are now so many good Islay and smoky whiskies that even Ardbeg had to do something. And when Laphroaig introduced their new 15 yo with reasonable price, they had to follow.

| Финиш | 86 | Medium-length finish, dry. Smoke, ash, brine, mineral notes, lemon zest, caramel, grapefruit, tangerines, oak spice. Finally, an Ardbeg with a higher age statement, a reasonable drinking strength, and even a very acceptable price. I like it, however, the smoke has a distinctly ashy character, significantly stronger than is typical for Ardbeg in the last decade. That's not quite to my taste. Let's see how it is with future batches. |

scent: subtle, smoky taste: dense, smoke, nutty, nutty A pleasant smoky drink. This Ardbeg certainly did not disappoint.
Nose From the very first sniff, the Trudernish makes no secret of its origins. Smoke, sweetness, coal, and tar. This is unmistakably Ardbeg, and initially, I find it extremely appealing. However, it doesn't stop with the usual suspects. Sage and a certain herbal spice join the mix, with a touch of vanilla in the background. The nose strikes me as surprisingly harmonious. The smoke is present but doesn't demand all the attention. It's precisely the combination of herbs, sweetness, and those typically gritty Ardbeg notes that makes it so appealing. I don't have to look far to feel comfortable here. The taste The alcohol is superbly integrated. Smoke and sweetness dominate the initial impression, accompanied by charcoal and a maritime note. There's also a touch of spice. The 48.8% ABV is perfectly balanced. With a little water, the whisky becomes more herbal, the sweetness becomes more pronounced, and at the same time, a pleasantly bitter side develops. This works surprisingly well. Although I must say, I already enjoy it very much neat. Conclusion A really good Ardbeg that doesn't deny its origins but still brings its own unique character. Interestingly, I wouldn't have necessarily believed it was 15 years old when tasting blind. In direct comparison, it seems a bit more compact than the ten-year-old. A truly excellent whisky that gave me pleasure from the very first sip.

Nose: Leather, shoe polish, new tennis balls (and/or the opened tin), vanilla pastry cream and a whiff of church incense. Palate: Round and elegant, with a good integration of oak, vanilla, and a pleasing lemon-lime freshness. The peat develops into a dry, ashy profile. Finish: Lingering ashiness, with a restrained, elegance. Overall: A mature, very enjoyable Ardbeg that rewards attention more than it immediately stuns with intensity. It’s elegant rather than forceful, with an interesting balance of sweetness, oak and smoke. It’s very good, although I still prefer the greater richness and intensity of Uigeadail.
It doesn't quite reach the smoky intensity of the Uigeadail or Corryvreckan. The Uigeadail has more fruit and offers more overall for less money. The Trudernish is a nice Ardbeg, but the current RRP of €80 is too high for what this batch delivers.

A beautifully mature and refined expression of Ardbeg, with softened, well-integrated peat smoke that feels considerably more restrained than the distillery’s younger, more powerful expressions. Sweet vanilla and gently smoked herbs emerge alongside coastal sea breeze and subtle coal tar. A particularly appealing savoury note develops, reminiscent of honey-glazed bacon cooking beside a bonfire, combining sweet, meaty richness with warm, aromatic smoke. The overall impression is elegant, harmonious and inviting. The peat remains unmistakably Ardbeg, but age has softened its more aggressive edges, allowing a gentler balance of sweetness, coastal freshness and savoury smoke. A rich, creamy and wonderfully oily arrival, with a chewy texture that coats the mouth beautifully. Sweet, integrated peat smoke leads into savoury smoked meats and honey-glazed bacon, echoing the nose. Gentle fruity sweetness develops underneath, suggesting stewed orchard fruits, possibly apples, accompanied by restrained oak and vanilla. The underlying Ardbeg distillate remains clearly recognisable, with a harmonious interplay of peat, fruit, smoke and oak. What stands out is the balance and texture. Nothing feels aggressive or intrusive. The whisky is exceptionally smooth and beautifully integrated, with a mature richness that becomes more appealing with each sip. Although flavourful and satisfying, the palate is more refined than adventurous, lacking some of the layers of complexity found in a Ardbeg Uigeadail for example. A satisfying medium-long finish, with lingering, beautifully integrated peat smoke. Gentle oak develops alongside impressions of burning applewood or hickory, creating an aromatic, wood-fired character. The smoke remains warm and savoury, accompanied by fading sweetness. The finish is balanced and pleasingly persistent, without excessive pepper, bitterness or drying tannins taking over. An exceptionally enjoyable and beautifully matured Ardbeg.
A really good whisky with coal, maritime notes, citrus and herbal notes, as well as a pleasant sweetness and slightly tart fruitiness. It's a good choice. 87/100 or 6/10
Ardbeg I believe have used tired old casks in this 15 year old. The spirit is lacking complexity of flavour. I'm getting alot of peat smoke, but no depth or other less noticeable tasting notes. When I look at other distilleries that produce peated whisky, this bottling is found wanting.

Blog about this Ardbeg Trudernish online on 17 September 2026 on my website. Interesting, smoked banana on the nose. Nice, creamy notes of vanilla, soft peat, green dentist gloves and whiffs of sandy beaches. Claggain Bay near Trudernish is perhaps more known for pebbles than sand, as legend has it that whoever takes a stone home from there is bound to return to Islay. We continue with some charcoal and dustiness, and some smouldering plastic. The burnt notes predict that the new oak influence is going to be considerable. The arrival on the palate is oily and sweet, or “creamy harmony” as the label says. This is a good description indeed. The keyword for this Ardbeg Trudernish is balance, which is something I enjoy finding in a middle-aged dram. The finish carries the influence of the oloroso, with red fruit covered under a smoky layer. The drinking strength is excellent. Still, for scientific reasons, I added a drop of water. This seems to release more yellow fruit with a topping of warm ashes. Like dropping your marshmallow in the campfire and deciding to leave it there. On the palate the sweetness is increased with fruity flavours like yellow apples and touches of peach and mango. This Ardbeg Trudernish is so well-rounded that perhaps the finish is a tad too smooth, but overall the balance is impressive.

A really good Ardbeg. A great addition to the already very good standard range. Beautifully creamy, great ex-bourbon influence, spicy and woody finish, I don't notice the small amount of sherry at all, which is absolutely fine, alcohol strength perfectly chosen, the new Ardbeg 15 is fun. I wouldn't have thought it before, but as of today I would even prefer it to my previous favorite Ardbeg, Uigeadail. The price is absolutely fine, and I hope it stays in that price range permanently.
Well, the nose and finish are nothing new; Ardbeg hasn't reinvented the wheel here. Let's just classify this 15-year-old as part of their standard range: This is a blend of the modern Ardbeg Ten, the current bottling of Traigh Bhan 19, and the Wee Beasty. In my opinion, the 15 years of aging bring hardly any new aromas to the nose or finish compared to the Ten and the Wee Beasty. In the mouth, however, it's rounder than the two aforementioned candidates, closer to the current Traigh Bhan 19. It feels quite smooth and composed on the tongue, slightly creamy and full-bodied. This is an advantage over Ten and Wee Beasty; the modern Ten is more watery, and the Beasty is quite peppery with sharp edges. But an innovative new flavor profile? No! All in all, it's quite alright; price-wise, it's on par with the Corryvreckan, which I clearly prefer as it offers a more intense flavor profile. The Uigeadail, with its lovely sherry influence and also around €10 cheaper, is slightly ahead of this new 15-year-old in my opinion. Ardbeg Ten, Wee Beasty, and An Oa come in second. Will I buy it more regularly? Probably not at around €80. As I've described, I have other Ardbeg favorites for that price. And… almost two bottles of Ten for one bottle of Trudernish? Hmm… In addition, the Ardbeg 8 Year Old For Discussion, which I also appreciate and which, for me personally, with its more intense but less rounded profile, is on par with the Trudernish, is currently available in many shops.

| Нос | 85 | First, ashy smoke, complete with an ashtray overflowing with cigarette butts. The smoke has a slightly sweet, maritime, salty, and iodine note. Various herbs (allspice, marjoram, lovage, thyme), honey, a touch of sourness on the nose—is that lime or grapefruit juice? I also detect oak spice, sweet malt, yellow apples, and licorice. Have I encountered all of this before in the core range? Definitely! |
| Вкус | 87 | So, here's where he can score points: Smoking charcoal, ashtray, green pears, orange zest, only slightly peppery, well-rounded, I don't find the Trudernish watery at all. Again the herbs from the nose, sweet malt, honey, licorice, and towards the end the saltiness and the oak come through. A beautiful, well-balanced composition of these aromas. You can taste the extended maturation time, unless I'm imagining it. And there's more: yes, black tea and espresso with their bitterness come into play, along with some ginger. What I can't find that others can taste: tropical fruits on a large scale. |
| Финиш | 85 | Medium-length, salty and smoky, the ashtray says hello again, charcoal, citrus influences, ginger, oak spice, burnt herbs, dark chocolate, sweet licorice, but also: Too much bitter black tea combined with bitter espresso and bitter dark chocolate. A solid Ardbeg that fits wonderfully between the TENs and the 19s. The price-performance ratio is therefore well chosen and really okay. However, I confirm the oaky aftertaste on the tongue, as mentioned by FriendlyMrZ. I experience the same thing. Trying to mix it with water might help... ;)) He finds a banana, I find the berries. After the third round, he can make it onto my shelf. So, scores above 87 are possible. It could then occasionally replace the 19-year-old. The Giro would be happy about that ;)

Compared to the Ardbeg TEN, I find the Trudernish to be more mature, rounder and exceptionally multi-layered. The individual flavours are harmoniously interwoven, creating a particularly balanced and cohesive tasting experience. For me, this is a superb bottling with remarkable depth and complexity, which fits very well into Ardbeg’s core range.
A harmoniously composed and sweet nose that, surprisingly, reminded me of some older Ardbeg vintages on the first nosing. Tarry, resinous, and mentholated, with a touch of fruit, it's ripe and well-rounded. Not spectacular, but simply well-made and inviting. Ardbeg aged in new American oak barrels can work. I actually find certain similarities to the good old Alligator, which is even more intense and robust. Creamy, oily, and full-bodied sweet, it glides across the tongue. The finish reveals the slightly tingling, spicy virgin oak influence, but not so extreme as to be bothersome. Overall, a really good composition at a realistic price. I hope the next batches can maintain this level. I'll be buying more… 87/100
Ashy smoke, quite present for 15 years. malted barley, vanilla, charcoal smoke. Rather cool, clear and maritime, than cozy and warming. Oily, maritime, and bitter. grapefruit, mineral, salty lemon. The finish is too bitter and fizzy for my taste. Those were very active casks.
