Bowmore Vault Edit1°N —

Yes this is a nice Bowmore. Actually a bit better than I expected. A realy nice whisky to sip in autumn. I would not recommend this at the retail price, but if you have a chance to taste, please do.
Overall, a little unbalanced. The nose is very restrained, the taste can then score again, although this is not quite the direction I would have expected at a Bowmore.

- a very tasty (rather unusual) Bowmore - strongly reminds me of Irish in taste Whiskys (that malty, sweet kind) - I wouldn't have had it at Bowmore in a blind tasting located and am pleasantly surprised - the price for originally around 100 € completely exaggerated, but currently 65-70 € (2020-11) a good price for the quality

This Bowmore Vaults Atlantic Sea Salt edition is a very sweet, fruity and complex NAS expression. I found myself sipping this absent-mindedly without realising that I’ve imbibed 3 drams. It is almost addictive. It delivers what it promises with its focus on salinity and is also quite approachable with its clean texture and moderate spice. I particularly love the notes of coconut flakes and salted caramel ice cream. This is a good dram on its own but a must-have for anyone who likes an ordinary Bowmore. Like the kid in school who never studies, but still does alright because they were born clever. Could do much better with some effort! It’s too young, and you can smell it. A bit rough around the edges. Luckily, Bowmore make such a ridiculously tasty spirit that it’s still a very nice experience. Don’t overpay, but if you can find it around 60-70 gbp it’s worth trying for fans of the distillery. The nose is prickly, the alcohol isn’t integrated well. Tropical fruits mix with wisps of smoke - that’s why we love Bowmore! The fruit are somewhat sweet but mainly tart - a bit of passion fruit with lots of gooseberry and kiwi. This is the same green tartness that turns to blackcurrants in sherried Bowmores. An almost vegetal or grassy edge to it. Fresh orange. Some fudge, honey and vanilla trying to hold everything together. As nose as palate. Dry, twiggy smoke and tart fruits again. Arrival is those fresh fruits, but mixed with beginnings of honey and vanilla, which haven’t been given enough time to develop in cask to tame the sharp top notes. Still delicious though, it’s a great mix of flavours. After the arrival, there’s hot spice, but the finish is all smoke and fruits again. So Bowmore. Overall, I’m glad to have tried this. Actually bought another bottle. I love that it let’s you get so close to the beautiful Bowmore spirit. It may be too close for comfort, for example it falls apart pretty quickly with water, that’s why they had to bottle at 50%+. A must try for Bowmore fans, for everyone else there’s better bottles waiting for your money.
Bowmore is an illustrious distillery on the island of islay. Praised for, especially, the older sherried whiskies. The modern day stuff somehow is not on my radar. But thanks to a range share offered through Het whisky forum, gave me a chance to zoom in todays bottles! It keeps me wondering why they so heavily use artificial coloring. Curious to this ‘vault edition no 1’. Really don’t know what to expect. The thing I do know is that it’s a clean bourbon maturation on higher ABV. But also that it’s rather prices for a NAS.
Quite similar to the 10 y.o. "Tempest", though this is milder, fruitier, more settled and – in my opinion – a more enjoyable drinking experience. Seems to have caught a lot of flak upon release due to the exaggerated price and lack of an age statement, but in 2022 this is pretty well priced around 70 € and a definite buy for me, since it has that lovely exotic fruitiness that you can typically find in late-90s and early-2000s Bowmore.

| Нос | 88 | Typical musty, dry, and ashy Bowmore smoke, with a faint floral aspect (did they use the opportunity to dump some of that infamous 80s liquid into the vatting?), but also a bright, fruity side, some creamy first-fill bourbon vanilla, and indeed a big sea-spray saltiness / maritime quality. Though it doesn't bear an age statement, you don't feel that it contains any inappropriately young spirit. Quite the opposite: there is zero alcoholic burn, and the nose appears rather settled and well-matured. I daresay the majority of the liquid in here must be well over ten years of age. The median age should probably be somewhere around 15 years, by my estimate. |
| Вкус | 89 | The fruits are there from the get-go: mango, peach and papaya, perhaps. Along with the ex-bourbon influence, you get a rather big honey-and-vanilla-custard sweetness, but it's wrapped up in (and counterbalanced by) tart, ashy, charcoal-like peat smoke. And salt, of course. Lots of it, actually —the name is justified. I find this exercise in pure distillery DNA a delight after all these countless sherry-drenched Bowmore OBs. |
| Финиш | 88 | Tropical fruit, violet candies, runny honey, rosemary, camphor, olive oil, a splash of lemon, and a indeed more than sprinkling of sea salt. Very long. |
Nice nose. Pepper. Subtle smoke, cold campfire ashes. Light spice. Some orange peel. No alcohol. Balanced, unobtrusive. Unfortunately, in the mouth it falls off more and more. Starts sweet with now significantly more smoke. Vanilla. A bit of salty sea air. Then a clear bitter note pushes everything away. I'm missing a bit of complexity here. It's definitely not bad. But I don't really get warm with him either.

61-70 – Okay, but not more than 1 Dram
My notes from a blind tasting: Region: Most likely Germany Distillery: No idea, St. Kilian doesn't actually fit due to the low alcohol content. Alcohol: 46-49% Barrel type: Bourbon (virgin, white wine, grappa) Age: 6-8 or NAS The nose is fresh and grassy, dry, everything is rather simple, the palate burns a bit alcoholically and like brandy. The distillate is good, but distilled too cleanly. I'm curious what that is. 83 points

Bowmore, 29/5/24. Dram drunk at the distillery's Open Day. Very creamy and lemony, yellow fruit, candied lemon, lemon biscuit. I don't smell the marine note, which according to the official tasting notes should be the strong point. I thought better

| Вкус | 86 | It begins gently and slightly dry. Grains and charcoal dominate. More powerful than on the nose. Not particularly complex here either, but I like it. Even if the maritime notes have diminished. |
| Финиш | 86 | The finish is short to medium-length and continues the flavor tones, now with some fruity notes of pear and kiwi. |
Very young and harsh, with only a hint of smoke. A big disappointment for me—definitely not worth the money.

On the positive side, this Bowmore Vaults Edition does indeed focus on the salinity that it promises. Beyond that, I’m struggling a bit to recommend it further. It’s easy-going and won’t challenge the senses too much, but at the same time is that really what the consumer should expect from a bottle a shy under £100? – probably not to my mind. https://www.thedramble.com/tastings/bowmore/bowmore-vaults-edition-atlantic-sea-salt/
N: not very expressive at 51%, vanilla and new oak, touch of glue. A tad herbaceous, but cannot pinpoint anything, pineapple juice. P: new oak, pineapple, simple syrup, wispy smoke, ginger F: fizzy orange, sweet and sour, dry, wispy smoke, lime, ginger powder Thoughts: only wispy smoke throughout, it’s one dimensional, and not exciting. It packs only slightly more Flavor at 51%. Obviously quite young. Very uninteresting.

A NAS that came onto the market in 2016 for over € 95.00! That's expensive, that's too expensive! But apart from the price, it shows a lot of character, especially in taste, and is also dangerously tasty. At the latest in the finish you will also recognize the salty aromas!

I am very surprised. In fact, there are also good no-age whiskys. This one is here and he keeps what he promises. Nice salty, at least that's how I feel. The price of 72 € is also acceptable. But will certainly move up soon. nose First, some "farmy" = damp wood in a stable in winter, after a while, something in the background and it comes out sweet apricot, which soon weakens again. Now comes some lemon and a salty maritime edge. There is virtually no smoke. Now some cake dough as before with nuts and the lemon, now a bit salty, fights again. Everything is nice and easy. Nothing is dominant. Nothing bites or burns. A nice snoop. taste Very nice oily, slippery - maritime and wonderful vanilla and sweet. Again citrus, with apricot. Minimal smoke is now to be guessed. Only accompanying in the background. A touch of white pepper. Not very complex but "easy drinking". leaving Delicate notes of wood, still salty - maritime, with some vanilla and cinnamon and a late dry woody note with delicate bitterness.

Reminds me of the Tempest series, which I love. That seems to makes sense because those were also bourbon-only matured. This is just less refined and less complex. That also seems to make sense because this expression is NAS.

Is there a reason to prefer this malt over the more favorable 10-year Tempest? I say no.
A okay bowmore that's very sweet. A vanilla marshmellow version of the tempest line. The tempest are better in roughness/ fruit and excitement. This has to much vanilla and wood spices.

Definitely a collector's item: not a bad whisky, but the expectations - from the price (> 100 €), the nickname "Atlantic Seasalt" as well as the flowery description on the back label - he can not meet by far. (Then prefer to look for Tempest.)

Nice Bowmore, well composed with light fruity and gently smoky nose. Palate seems to be a bit unbalanced but still leaves very good impression. Salt can be felt through all tasting stages so the expression’s name reflects its nature. Really overpriced at the beginning, now (end of 2018) can be purchased for more or less reasonable 70-80 euros.

N,T,F: One of the more enjoyable Bowmore’s I’ve had for a while though that’s not saying a great deal. The strength makes it. Powerful astringent aromatic floral peat and briny saltiness, that’s Bowmore – naked/candidly presented with a mix/blend of young and older stock. C: All these years later, plenty of bottles still hang around in retail shops at a rather head-scratching £80-90. Halve the price and you’ve got yourself a deal.

A little iodine at the very beginning of the nose, but above all we feel the influence of bourbon, very vanilla, yellow plum, mirabelle plum, a touch of mint and salt. More like coarse Guérande salt, with ether, a medicinal touch, and the rising tide. Algae, guano, thick, waterlogged sand, we are definitely on the Atlantic. Still, behind all that, a little gourmet side, icing sugar, a little sponge cake. Mouth where vanilla takes over, very syrupy, strongly spicy, lemon, clove, and a finish that is not too strong, very saline, like those crispy salt patches found on certain beaches, quite long in the mouth. It's so nice, a 50+ proof Bowmore very bourbon influenced and quite saline. https://ilikesky2020.blogspot.com/2020/06/bowmore-vault-edit-1n-first-release.html

21/02/2025 - 50 ml Once the label is revealed, it does not deserve ice, but contemplation. But it's a normal, basic Bowmore, always well made and with a high ABV, in this case. Between this and 12 I'll go with 12, but this one can be diluted and, who knows, it might compensate more, but I'm afraid the peat could disappear below 45%.

| Нос | 84 | Ember truffle, ash, coal; vanilla, malt, wild flowers and fresh fruits. Fiery, but not unpleasant, as it does not contain grain alcohol, but it must be young and high ABV. Dry and mature wood. Some dried fruits such as apricots, dates and pistachios. The light smoke transmits with the malt a bread fresh from the oven, but which has toasted a little. It's more dry than sweet, and the heat promises release with water. With water it releases crystal sugar and vanilla, the burning sensation diminishes and the peat threatens to go away. Dried yellow fruits, such as fresh apricots and peaches. Very aromatic in the dry and light smoked spectrum, without defects. |
| Вкус | 83 | Pleasantly spicy like toasted bread with chili peppers, oily, the peat is a plus point of the mild, dry and direct. Malty, citrusy, sweeter than on the nose. Dry malted cereals, sunflower seeds, quinoa. Light wood tannins, but also a sulphurous touch of cooked vegetables. With water the peat becomes earthy, the wood toasted with vanilla, menthol and tannins. Dry with a hint of white candy. |

Rather disappointing to me. It's obviously young, with ample pepper, vanilla and other sweet associated flavours. The peat is there, but doesn't blow me away. The only positive edge is the saltiness that I find in this whisky. The price quality ratio is dramtic however, and what makes it worse is that it's a NAS. It was nice to try one dram, but I won't get a NAS with this quality for this price.
yeah ... it is salty, very gently smoky, some peat as well. some yellow fruits, some nice oak, some nice pepper. that is really all true. but I got the 17yo white sands which was all of that and more for around € 55,-. Fruity bomb all 'round. I call this whisky "Mango". i make a comparison that when I want Mango, I go for it. I don't consider it a whisky. What a pleasant product. When Bowmore makes an integrity spirit, it knows how to do it. Majority of OBs are bad. This is just great.

Yup, this is the big ‘well behaved’ brother of the No 1, but so it comes with a price: around 110 EUR. Having said that, it does deliver what it promises: Atlantic Sea Salt.

This is how the normal 12 yo should taste, even if then bottled at a slightly lower 46% abv. Pretty decent Bowmore, some nice bourbon notes, but overpriced for what you get, especially as a NAS version.

The bottle ca half full for a couple of years when tasting. Light smoke, banana and citrus on the nose. Tastewise ashes, pineapple, mango and still quite sharp alc. Peppery into the finish. Get a link to young Talisker here. Not bad, not exceptional.
Bowmore's Vault no. 1 is one of the oldest warehouses used to store whisky.

Difficult. In the nose an absolute disappointment, with all love. Tasty then much more present and really pleasant, but with strong parallels to the "Tempest" Abfüllungen, which in addition to similar alcohol strength after all, carry an age and priced significantly cheaper. So this Bowmore is not really a "must have" for me and more interesting for collectors. I prefer to stay with the old "Cask Strength" or just a lot of similar single Casks of various UA.
Far too expensive for a NAS Bowmore. Since Bowmore had in recent years in terms of price / performance but more appealing to offer. In this regard, I am disappointed.

Beautiful fruity very finely smoky whisky. Definitely one of the TOP two best Bowmore Whisky ever, I had the opportunity to drink from this producer. Over time, it opens incredibly and in its aroma you can smell small wild berries, raspberries, strawberries, blueberries.
Smell the fragrance: The level of the fragrance is very rich. It seems that every time you lift the cup, a new flavor will burst out. It is banana oil. Smoked fish sausage. Fried eggs and butter bread. The aroma of smoked peat is like inside. An invisible thread. But it connects many aromas. Sea salt bacon. Orange jam. Rosemary. White chocolate. Reminds me of breakfast in high-end hotels. And this chef always likes to fry food for a long time. some. Tasting: The impact of the ocean. It hits the mouth like a wave. The sea salt brings out a lot of spices. There are black pepper and cumin. It melts in the mouth together. And I don't intend to let any corner. Final rhyme: The salty taste seems to stay in the mouth for a longer time. The light peat and chocolate seem to be reluctant to leave. Licking the teeth with your tongue at any time. It seems that you can find some Summary: The only wine cellar in the world located below sea level. Because the sea breeze is rich in moisture, the warehouse is cold and humid. The annual angle shear is only 1%. And the oak barrels sleeping here always breathe the breath of the ocean. The bred marine character. It complements the elegant peat aroma of the winery. It is balanced and creative. It is open and cheerful. It is refreshing.

Another Bowmore item that's great for. I am waiting for the dram "super - great" from this distillery, but the price is high. The cost of the bottle in a good promotion is 60 €. A lot is happening. Sweetness, sea breeze and a delicate scent of burnt rubber, which emanates a floral and citrus aroma with sweet coatings. Alcohol very well hidden and giving a warmer and more than smoking effect. I like it.

Beautiful balance between fruits, salt, vanilla cream and smoke. I prefer it neat, though it's great with a few drops of water too. Drowns fairly easily though.

With all the hype surrounding this drop, I'm stuck to the ground (top whisky: NO), but I still attest to an interesting variety of aromas and taste experiences. Indeed, the saltiness (as announced by Bowmore) gives this first edition a legitimate typification. I'm quite satisfied!
