84 | sweet, subtle, honey, lemon oil, light candle wax, white smoke, herbal complexity The nose is subtle but very good. |
| Вкус | 84 | viscous, pleasant, citrus, sweet malt, white pepper, slightly drying, white smoke, light peat Pleasant arrival with a nice viscous body. Very light and refreshing. The components are well integrated with no obvious blending flaws. |
| Финиш | 83 | lingering, sweet, drying effect, light herbs, cilantro, light peaty complexity, light white smoke lingering The finish is a bit simple, but it lasts a decent amount of time. A great blended malt at a great price. I enjoy this quite a bit. If price becomes an issue in the future, this will be a good treat to back off onto. I'd step directly into this and skip the King Street series. |

Blind tasting Nose: Lots of fresh, citrusy fruit. Very bitter. Smells like a young blend from the bourbon barrel. The alcohol comes through even though I don't think there's much in it. Mouth: Malty sweet. But above all a bit bitter. Could have had a little more alcohol. I estimate 46-48% on the tongue. Relatively sharp. A slightly metallic note that also contributes a lot to the bitterness. It doesn't taste particularly good to me. Nice fruit. But alcoholically sharp and metallically young. Not totally bad, but not really good either.
Both fresh and ripe fruits, some honey, vanilla, green leafy floral notes, hints of peat with smoke and salt. Very light, easy to drink. My favorite basic CB blend.
I’ve had this one many times, from many different bottles but somehow never got around to properly sit down with it. Better late then never! About this dram, I can be pretty concise: solid stuff, spot-on marketing, it delivers on its premise/promise and then some. The name and art on the label really match the flavour well. Indeed I can envision scenes of an orchard in late summer while drinking this, with ripe fruits and bees around (I get honey/waxy notes in this as well, is that you Clynelish?). Craft presented, (unnecessary) proof that blends can be very solid, and for the price a clear winner.

A pleasant and unassuming blended malt featuring Linkwood, Clynelish, and Benrinnes. The three major components of the blend played nicely together; Linkwood appeared with the citrus and herbal nuts, Benrinnes gave a lovely weight on the palate, and the Clynelish more citrus, orchard fruit, and chalk-stoney depth. I did not quite get the impression of an orchard— maybe a house near an orchard; possibly, that was Compass Box's intention. While orchard fruits— citrusy and otherwise— played a starring role— notes of old oak, tea, and pastries brought to mind a farmhouse and a picturesque brunch. While this did not tickle my fancy, I would grab it ahead of Glenlivet, Glenfiddich, or Balvenie 12 Year. It fits into a similar place as those single malts but with more depth and restrained sweetness. It was pleasant and, perhaps most importantly for an unassuming whisky such as this, affordable.

85+ I initially had this as the worst core range CB (1st bottle), but now it is definitely my favorite (2nd bottle). Great PLV at 45-55 euros even in pricey locations like mine, very wellmade blended malt that feels like a young Highland single malt with a twist. Super honest and versatile, greatly dilutable and quite intense. I'm sold until they screw up the formula.

| Нос | 86 | In your face freshness popping everywhere, fresh malt, floral-honey and bright fruits (a literal orchard, from peach and sour apples to lemon and sour plums). Oily, almost greasy on the nose, clear zesty caramel and chocolate notes. Grassy, the wood can sometimes come off as a bit musty, however I'd say it is still quite fresh and clean overall. A bit salty and chlorine-y in the back. Never too exciting (at the end of the day this is relatively cheap), but certainly never boring, always intense and fresh enough to keep you engaged despite its youth. |
| Вкус | 86 | Oily even after hard dilution, barley sugars join forces with sourness and saltiness. Juicy yet sour fruits (green apples, lemon, unripe pomegranate), salted caramel. Second half presents a soft peatiness unexpected after the nose, more salted caramel and very diverse oak spices --- pink pepper and nutmeg, cinnamon mixed with brown sugar, green powder ginger. Original and very well executed. |
| Финиш | 84 | Medium length, very decent for a lightly peated NAS. Still fresh and bright, lightly smoky, toasted malt and light/white-yellow fruits once again. Soft oak spices, zesty chocolate, freshly cut grass. Quite nice, CB, I will definitely buy more of this in the future. |
Tasting as part of a whiskey advent calendar Unexpectedly good, positive surprise!

04/10/2024 - 60 ml Compass Box, this time you didn't fool me with this late afternoon perfume, but I was personally disappointed. Well, the label is honest, because the citrus, fruity and floral aromas are expected, but in the mouth the flowers go and the leaves come for the goat to eat.

| Нос | 75 | Very light vanilla, as well as light white flowers, citrus fruits and white wood. The alcohol is light, with a spice of allspice. Deeper, despite burning more, pineapple appeared, a slight mango and the vanilla was much more apparent; the wood turned out to be old, although light. With water, white sugar is released, the malt separates a little and the alcohol continues to persevere, but without being unpleasant. It seems to me like a very fragrant ex-bourbon blend. Once the label is revealed and I know I have another 30ml to play with, let's add ice: it continues with the delicate delivery of citrus, light malt, flowers and old barrel. Interestingly, it didn't change with the presence of ice. Ah, melon appeared. |
| Вкус | 71 | Very thin, bearable grain alcohol, old barrel, ripe pineapple, lemon, vanilla and some macerated yellow flower. There is a release of tannins just like green leaves; There's a soft drink here in Minas Gerais called Mate-couro, made with yerba mate and leather hat, it really reminded me. With water it became sweeter, the old barrel continues and brings the astringency of green leaves, light malt and hop bitterness. After revealing the label and placing two ice cubes, it remains astringent with green leaves, yerba mate, hops and a clear, but old barrel. |
| Финиш | 66 | Short to medium, leaving an aftertaste of white, old and astringent wood. |
Fruit salad in a whisky bottle, and at a good value/price. Getting gentle entry of pineapples, honey, lime, peaches and gala melon with a biscuity malt, sugar barley finish. A lemon zest leaves bitter finish. Balance of sourness and sweetness with a leaning towards sourness.Time in glass really works for this dram and opens up the flavours considerably. Upgrading to 86. Fruit replaces the sour notes.

This is a very, very good summer dram and really bang for your bucks. It wears its name perfectly. You’re drinking a bowl of fruits and for the price asked for a bottle, it’s a no-brainer. Buy one, open it, and drink it. It’s great in the summer but honestly, it’s still winter at the time of writing and I’m enjoying it quite a lot too.

Not too shabby but can't deliver the fruity and promising nose on the palate that is less fruity and more spicy, especially in the aftertaste. I'd rather have the Spice Tree - despite its name - for a few Euros more.
lots of stone fruit, fresh, elderflower. nice balance between the fresh fruity and the spicy. nicely rounded without getting boring
Ohhhh Kudos! What a true delight. Orchard house it’s called and orchard house is exactly what it is! What a fantastic summertime dram this is!
Manchester Whisky Club, June 2022, Bang for your Buck Tasting. Very fruity and reasonable value for money. Not much complexity.
Replacing the 2021 discontinued Oak Cross, Orchard House is the latest addition to the Compass Box core range. Ripe fruits are the main theme, and the nose delivers what the label promised: apples, pears and vanilla, mixed with peaches, biscuits and honey. More of the same on the palate, before it turns spicy and slightly dry in the development, enriched by unripe banana, pineapple and ginger. Lemon zest, grapefruit and herbal notes subside in the medium finish, and I can even hear the Caol Ila whispering. A rock-solid sipper for long summer evenings. Surprisingly good for its (young) age and (low) price. By the way, this is the age ratio: Benrinnes - 8 y.o. Linkwood - 8 y.o. Clynelish - 8 y.o. Distillery near the town of Aberlour - 6 y.o. Highland Malt Blend - 10 y.o. Caol Ila - 8 y.o. [Weighted arithmetic mean: 7,88 years.]

| Нос | 86 | Fragrantly floral and fruity, with a soft waxiness (thanks to Clynelish and Benrinnes) and lovely wood notes. The fruits come across as "young" (mainly grape, pear, and peach), but are well integrated with some oily spirit, sweet ex-bourbon aromas, and a slightly savory side. The minuscule amount of Caol Ila provides a briny / saline / maritime backdrop without ever translating into any actual smokiness. Buttery soft with zero alcohol in the nose. Honeyed and rich. Excellent cask quality. |
| Вкус | 86 | Surprisingly deep and textured, with a great balance of sweetness, fruity acidity, and oak spice. Again, no "boozy", alcoholic impression; the first-fill bourbon wood has done its job well and filtered out any rough edges in a short amount of time. This may not have worked with other distillates, but the Clynelish/Benrinnes/Caol Ila combination really comes through with a nice mouthfeel and way more character than your standard 10-12-year-old Speysider. I'm no Linkwood expert, but there's also a faintly herbal/earthy/rooty impression that it might be responsible for. Tasty, fun, and unboring to drink. |
| Финиш | 85 | Long, especially when you take age into account. Honeyed, malty and fruity, with immaculate oak influence and a puff of smoke to round things off and prolong the experience. At times I'm unsure if there's just a whiff of more "neutral" alcohol in the finish, but the impression comes and goes, so I'm detracting no more than a point here. |

A successful summer whisky. The smell is one of the fruitiest malts I can remember recently. Linkwood and Clynelish harmonize well, but could use a bit more maturity. I kind of miss the balance of a Compass Box Spice Tree. But maybe a bit too much to ask given the amount of fruit in one pile.

Most disappointing Compass Box that I had in years... Much too young and imo not integrated enough.
(TASTED BLIND) NOSE: Sweet candy, green herbs, wintergreen, petroleum, mint, dried banana, sweet bourbon. (89p). TASTE: The arrival is a bit fruity, with mild orchard fruits. On the mid palate the fruitiness continues and is joined by a nice freshness/acidity, a touch of astringency and some green herbal notes. All in all quite nice. (88p). FINISH: Fruitiness, acidity, astringency and green herbs come together with a touch of pepper/wood spice. Fairly long. (87-88p). OVERALL: A restrained fruitiness and measured level of complexity. Probably not for everyone but I like this fruity-acidic and mildly astringent style quite well. Total score 88 points.

Sweet, light, fruity (pears, apples, bit of peaches), slightly minerally (the Linkwood talking?). Little bith of alcohol on the nose but that's just a small point of critique. All in all a nice malt and very well put together. Only at the very end do you get a hint of the Caol Ila - just a hint of peat, and that only came when the bottle was open for a bit already. Sweet pear, honey and spices (mostly ginger).
Harmonic, fruity, good quality for the young age
Definitely young but balanced nonetheless. Good stuff!
A bottle that gives a similar feeling from the beginning to the end as you empty it. However, as it gets closer to the end, the peat feeling gets stronger and it feels a bit thin, so I wonder if it's because the bright and sweet taste loses its power first or if it's a condition issue. (Usually, peat loses its power faster, but it felt that way after about 3 months of opening.) Personally, among the whiskies that can be chosen under 100,000 won, it's a well-made blended with a generous 46% ABV, an overall flawless taste, and various layers.

The Orchard House is another outstanding blended malt from Compass Box. A fruity, light summer whisky with lovely fruit notes and just enough spice to keep it interesting. A subtle hint of smoke from the Clynelish spirit adds a nice touch. Once again, Compass Box demonstrates that well-made blended malts are in no way inferior to single malts. Many distilleries could certainly learn a thing or two from their transparency.

| Нос | 85 | It has a very pleasantly fruity nose. Apples, pears, pineapple, papaya, and a good splash of lime. Some honey and malt notes are also present. A subtle, delicate smoky note can be detected in the background. |
| Вкус | 85 | It opens with abundant citrus notes: lime and lemon, before the fruit provides sweetness. Again, slightly unripe pears, apples, pineapple, papaya, and mango emerge, topped with a touch of honey. A subtle woody spice appears. Ginger's heat brings a slight tingle to the tongue. A sweet and sour balance develops, before a hint of smoke emerges. |
| Финиш | 84 | The finish is medium-long at most. The initial sweetness and acidity are complemented by a pleasant woody spice. Towards the end, a bit more smoke does indeed come through. |
Bottled: 02.09.2023 Overall, I find it to be a very pleasant and refreshing whisky; I would certainly say it is one of the best choices for the summer season. That said, I was a bit disappointed by the nose or perhaps my expectations were simply too high as I struggled to pick out distinct aromas; to me, there wasn't anything particularly bold or overpowering. However, the elegance and freshness it delivers on the palate and in the finish—along with its clean texture that never tires the taste buds—really pleased me and lifted the spirits that had dampened slightly during the nosing stage. From what I’ve seen, while it is very reasonably priced in some places, it is harder to find and much more expensive in others; I ended up paying the higher price, but even so, if I wanted to drink whisky during this hot summer, this would easily be my choice. If you sip it with the glass or bottle slightly chilled, it feels truly wonderful. Cheers.

| Нос | 82 | When I open the bottle and bring it to my nose, the first scents to emerge are abundant creamy vanilla and notes of sweet, juicy yellow fruit. After pouring some into a glass and letting it sit for about 15 minutes, a clean malt sweetness comes to the fore, accompanied by plenty of vanilla reminiscent of pastry cream; I also detect a hint of oak slightly further back. Feeling it hadn't opened up enough, I added three drops of water; this revealed notes of juicy apricot, both stewed and fresh apple, slightly tart plum, and what seems to be a touch of cocoa powder. Additionally, gently swirling the glass releases aromas of dry earth and dried grass. The aromas are not entirely distinct or intense; the whisky feels somewhat young. |
| Вкус | 84 | In the small sip taken to prime the palate, I clearly detected sweet red apple and a hint of oak bitterness. Moving on to the second sip, I would describe it as smooth and light-bodied not oily, with a touch of acidity; it doesn't dry out the mouth and has a slightly juicy, sweet character, though if held in the mouth longer, it intensifies slightly and can feel a tad oilier. With the third, fourth, and subsequent sips, it is never fatiguing on the palate; it feels somewhat juicier and more refreshing, offering sweet fruit notes vanilla, bitter orange, apricot, peach, pear, juicy plum, and abundant citrus alongside a very subtle, delicate warmth of black pepper and ginger. It has an elegant structure. |
| Финиш | 84 | As it goes down the throat on the finish, I first detect a fleeting bitterness of oak spice and dry notes reminiscent of walnut shell; then, while perceiving flavors of sweet, ripe yellow apple, pear, apricot, nectarine, and a touch of honey, these quickly evolve as the seconds tick by into younger, fresher notes like green apricot, unripe plum, and unripe green peach, and even hints of green grass and herbs; honestly, this feels very refreshing and pleasant to me. I would describe the finish as having medium length. |
Reminds me a lot of WID 163232. No wonder, since the main ingredient is Linkwood (39%): Benrinnes - First Fill Bourbon Barrel 20.0% Linkwood - First Fill Bourbon Barrel 39.0% Clynelish - First Fill Bourbon Barrel 29.0% Distillery near the town of Aberlour - Revatted Oloroso Sherry Seasoned Butt 8.0% Highland Malt Blend - Own French Oak Barrel - Heavy Toast 2.0% Caol Ila - First Fill Bourbon Barrel 2.0% The name says it all: very nice light fruit notes. Vineyard peaches, pears, pineapples, apples. In addition, delicious grain notes. Oatmeal, muesli. Uncomplicated, perfect strength. Right away, worth 88 points for me. A bargain for the price (40 €). Easy drinking summer whiskey.

For it's price a very good buy. It helped to warm the mini glencairn in my hands for a while, nose and finish improved.

Perfumed, fragrant and floral. Apples, pears, peaches, melon, tangy pineapple, honey, creamy vanilla. Slightly savoury. Hint of ash. Waxy. A few drops of water and it comes alive. Slightly confected on the nose à la Glencadam 10 but a beautiful finish. Lovely whisky, aptly named.

The whiskey didn't open up to me on the first try at an online regulars' table. But since he got away very well in the lap and I didn't think he was bad per se, he got another chance on a quiet evening. You can really get involved with the dram and the whiskey also has a lot to offer for the palate and nose. All in all a very good blended malt for a reasonable price.

Batch L29 10 21 Nose: fresh and slightly sparkling, orchard (pears, apples, peaches, a few grapes), blossom honey, somewhat waxy, some powdered sugar, some vanilla Palate: pleasing and waxy, fruit basket (apple, pear, peach), some vanilla, a touch of smoke, slightly metallic and acidic Finish: short, waxy, apple, peach, slightly metallic Rating: the name says it all - a beautiful orchard in summer: fruit basket, blossom honey, waxy and a little vanilla. The youth is noticeable too, but at the price this is an all-around great summer whiskey for a relaxing evening al fresco. Fits. 86/100 or 6/10
Nose : fruity, floral, subtle smoke Taste: Fruity, light - but a bit spirited with a light wood note Finish : Short and fruity
sometimes the label does not tell you anything at all, and sometimes it just tells you all you need to know on what to expect to taste: fruits and flowers, happily together in an orchard in the sun, apples, pears, lemon, melon, roses, cherries, honey and some wax. really good back for your buck

A lovely fruity wine with a touch of complexity. Quite rich. The nose offers apple, lemon, and a hint of custard. The palate follows the same pattern with a very cereal note. The finish is decent. A whisky for the summer. Very good for the price.

Another very nice bottling from Compass Box. As the beautiful design of the whiskey suggests, this blended malt is a true fruit composition. When pouring, strong sugared vanilla notes pour out of the glass paired with Nashi pear, apple and a small, light note of smoke. The taste with typical bourbon barrel facets, vanilla and a basket with light sweet and sour fruits. The alcohol cools the palate like after biting into a mint leaf. A smoky note can be guessed at with a lot of imagination. The aftertaste is medium-long with honey sweetness, fruit and a bit of oak bitterness.

Nose: As the name suggests, a lot of garden fruit with apples, ringlets, peaches and a hint of lemon, lemon drops with a subtle note of yeast, pancake batter, panettone and subtle oak, vanilla, hazelnuts and marzipan. In the taste, honey and wax join the aromas of the nose (Clynelish?) In the finish then a bit one-dimensional on the oaky aroma spectrum. Conclusion: Pleasant for beginners but nothing more.
Compass Box, a Scottish whiskymaker and owned by an American who says he has no secret when blending whisky. One of my friends said that you pay too much for a fancy label and transparency; I have the intension to find out. Starting with this one.

| Нос | 87 | Initially quite closed, but some 20 minutes of hand-warming does the trick. When opening up, you enter a meadow full of green fruit. A field full of pears and especially apples. In between the trees of green fruit, a bouquet of flowers. In the far distance a mellow sea breeze from Islay bringing in a light touch and influence of Caol Ila. |
| Вкус | 87 | Although I mainly drink cask strength whiskies, this one has quite a full body. The 46% abv is ok, but I guess this would have been better when bottled somewhere between 46 and 50%. Slightly waxy. Strong arrival of herbs and oaky flavors. Fruity flavors are drawn to the back. Tickling spices on the tongue. |
| Финиш | 86 | Pretty long finish. Dominant spices in the finish. In the far end maybe slightly watery and dry. Conclusion: good start of my quest on the Compass Box catalogue. Great P/Q ratio. I am pretty sure this one blows quite some entry level single malt whiskies off the table. |
